Wimbledon free bets and tips
Now the first week is almost out of the way, it's time to put your money on Wimbledon. Will Murray make the final? Ever? And can Federer make it seven? FBB hopes so, especially with such generous odds knocking around...
A simple free bet that gives you double your money - deposit and bet £10, and they'll give you a £20 free bet. Now, having a look around their Wimbledon odds, 6/4 against Murray being eliminated in the semi-final is wonderfully tempting. Djokovic is 7/4 to be eliminated in the semi-final, while there's a generous 13/8 against Richard Gasquet to win the first set against Andy Murray. Given that Murray is often a slow starter and needs a kick up the rear to start playing well, betting against him in the first set is sometimes a good tactic. The better the opponent, the more likely it is to happen.
SkyBet's offer is great if you're going to stick around with a bookie for a long time - they'll keep rewarding you with free bets, which is nice. They're offering enhanced multiples - and at Wimbledon, you sometimes need multiples just to make it interesting, as the odds early on in the tournament can be sickeningly short. So - take Wozniacki, Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, Serena and Soderling all to win, and you get 4/6 - and that's enhanced. Chances are that they all will win - there are so few upsets especially against the very top players, so it's a good bookie that tops up the odds for you.
If you think it's Djokovic's year, then he's 11/4 with Betfred. In fact, until the French open, it really was Djokovic's year, and if you believe Federer's ageing and Nadal's just got lucky on grass (not his favourite surface), then perhaps there is an opportunity for the Joker. At odds of nearly 3/1, then you'd be doing well - especially if you get your free £50 bet. The women's tournament is wide open, if you believe the bookies, and 8/1 against world number 1 Wozniacki is just plain bizarre. She should be snapped up at those odds, but I also like the look of Lisicki, who beat Li Na so well the other night. She's a gritty competitor who should have been a top 10 player a few years ago before her injury. She's 8/1 as well, which a) highlights the lunacy of Wozniacki's odds, and b) shows that she's now being considered a real contender.
Betclic's free bet is a little different - bet £30 on anything you like - for example, Wozniacki at 8/1 or Lisicki at 9/1, and if your selection doesn't win, you'll get your £30 back. No questions asked, you can withdraw it, or you can play with it again. If you win, you just get your winnings, which is kind of good - you'd get £240 + your stake back if Wozniacki won, and £270 + your stake if Lisicki wins. Many people have a Betclic account as well as several others, simply because they can take advantage of the continuous offers that Betclic throw at you - comeback bonuses et al.
