Denman runs at Ayr - immediate favourite
Denman has been installed as the 5/2 favourite for the Scottish Grand National at Ayr next month after connections said that he should, all being well, be participating. The Gold Cup second-placed horse disappointed at Cheltenham with a relatively sluggish ride in defeat to Imperial Commander, and will be hoping to defy top weight.
Carrying 11st12lb around Ayr will be no easy task for the horse known as the Tank, especially considering that he will be renewing rivalry with Madison du Berlais.
Nicholls said: "If the ground's right and he's right, he's very likely to run," Nicholls said. "We've got to monitor the ground situation because it can get fast up there at this time of year but we've had a very, very wet spring. I haven't got many options with him, to be honest. Aintree's not really his track, it's too tight and sharp unless the going's testing."
