Mon Mome wins the National at 100/1
Mon Mome came from nowhere to win today's Grand National at Aintree to become one of the longest-odds winners of the National since the race began at 100/1.
Our pick, Butler's Cabin, came in with the pack, and there are doubts over his health - equally so with Hear The Echo. It could have been two in a row, though, for Comply or Die, who made all the running towards the back-end of the race without being able to match the astonishing charge of Mon Mome.
For the record (and no, we didn't back it), this is what FreeBetBookmaker said earlier this week:
His form has taken a knock, but his ability should not be doubted - he got round the National fences last time out, and had a great win at Cheltenham towards the back end of last year. Of the longer-odds horses, this one looks the best value, and comes in at a decent weight.
Black Apalachi had led for most of the race before nosing into the ground, while Irish Invader and Hear the Echo made good running alongside him. Silver Birch kept on well, but it was Venetia Williams, who broke her neck riding the National, who trains the winner - a 100/1 shot - Mon Mome.
