Next Ferguson Prodigy to go? Mark Hughes, it seems…
Manchester City’s Mark Hughes is the 11/4 favourite to be the next manager to have played under Sir Alex Ferguson to lose his job.
With Roy Keane walking away from Sunderland a fortnight ago and Paul Ince’s Blackburn departure today, the cheeky bookie Paddy Power has not failed to notice a pattern developing. The last two Premier League managers to lose or leave their jobs have both played under Sir Alex Ferguson, and Paddy Power has now opened a market on which one of Fergie’s Fledglings will be next to go.
Mark Hughes is the favourite as the world’s richest club, Manchester City, sit just fourth from bottom of the Premier League. Hughes is followed by Mark Robins of Rotherham at 7/2 and Celtic’s Gordon Strachan at 4/1.
The betting also looks overseas with Laurent Blanc at Bordeaux at 7/1 whilst Henning Berg also features in the betting at 5/1 as manager of Lillestrom in Norway – an interesting price given that his team currently sits 12th in a league of 14.
Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: ‘With the market taking in England, Scotland, France and Norway it’s more difficult to tell who might go first. But with many of Fergie’s Fledglings having their wings clipped since flying his nest it might not be too long before the next one comes crashing down to earth.”
Which Manager who played for Sir Alex Ferguson will be next to leave his current position?
11/4 Mark Hughes (Man City)
7/2 Mark Robins (Rotherham)
4/1 Gordon Strachan (Celtic)
5/1 Henning Berg (Lillestrom)
6/1 Darren Ferguson (Peterbrough)
6/1 Alex McLeish (Birmingham)
7/1 Laurent Blanc (Bordeaux)
10/1 Steve Bruce (Wigan)
