Snooker betting - UK championships
Betting on snooker has just acquired something of a dodgy taste, what with Stephen Maguire beating Jamie Burnett 9-3 and the alleged betting scam (or rigging) that went on behind the scenes. We don't know anything about that, but we have been keeping a keen eye on the UK Championships.
We've always known this tournament to be "the one with the blue carpet", or "the one that you didn't know was coming up". It just seems to happen on you - everyone knows about the World Championships in April, but this one? Well, it just creeps up on us.
Mark Selby is already out, so Ronnie O'Sullivan is obviously the clear favourite, but Ding's 147 today has set the cat amongst the pigeons. However, he's 20/1 with BoyleSports right now, and not without reason. He's facing (and losing to) John Higgins as I write this.
One man to watch is Neil Robertson, who has started to win tournaments. The Australian has seemingly got his game together and is currently leading Stephen Maguire 5-3. They are due to restart at 7pm this evening. Marco Fu is another who has slipped in under the radar, so if you're looking for betting beyond the Rocket, then these two might be the men to consider.
And one final thought - it's nice to see Mark King playing some decent snooker after all this time. I remember watching him a few years ago and thinking that it was the most god-awful match of snooker I've ever seen with pots going so far wide of the pockets that you barely knew which pockets he was aiming for. That's improved and he looks a much better all-round player, one who is well worth an each-way punt to reach the semi-finals.
We've teamed up with BoyleSports and they're offering you £200 worth of free bets. Basically, deposit £50 and you get a free £50 bet. One of the hot bets at the moment seems to be Graeme Souness to take over at Blackburn - that's currently 2/1 which would net you a nice £100.
