Wednesday’s Cheltenham tips

If, like the Free Bet Bookmaker himself, you are still celebrating the winnings from a certain Punjabi at 25/1 earlier today, not to mention the each-way punt in the first race, then you'll feel a little light-headed right now. Still, there are plenty of horses to look at for Wednesday - and once more, it's a case of look each-way for the value, and hope for the best. In these huge fields, only the brave - and the foolish - wade in on the straight-forward winners. Except for one horse in particular, though... Master Minded

Cheltenham 1:30: Parson's Pistol

Kornati Kid has obvious claims here but it's Parson's Pistol, ridden by Nina Carberry, who can follow up on a good win at Naas lately. Such a good win that it's surprising Paddy Power are sticking to odds of 10/1 with this one. Can't Buy Time might be the 4/1 favourite right now, but that's on the basis of one win last time out - I'll be looking at the more solid claims (and value odds) of Parson's Pistol here.

Cheltenham: 2:05 Mikael Dhaguenet (NAP)

Mikael Dhaguenet is a good favourite here, and has bags of potential - especially if it continues to rain over Cheltenham. Unbeaten in four starts over the timber, this is an excellent five-year old who has pace in abundance. Ruby Walsh has picked a cracker here, and the main challenge is going to come from Diamond Harry who has course and distance pedigree. I'd be taking Diamond Harry each way.

Cheltenham 2:40 What A Friend / Market Man / Massini's Maguire

Two horses that have an each-way chance with a field that looks to be led by the excellent What A Friend are Market Man and Massini's Maguire. The latter has some shaky hurdles form but has done course and distance in the past, while the Market Man is sure to find going and distance helpful. Having won earlier in the season at Newbury, the form box is ticked, but it's to Alex Ferguson's What A Fried that we turn for the quality and the value... 5/1 with most bookmakers, and a better bet than the favourite Cooldine, ridden by Ruby Walsh.

Cheltenham: 3:20 Master Minded / Petit Robin

Don't think for a minute that Master Minded will get beaten here - he simply won't. He's the type of horse that you stop everything just to watch, even against opposition like this that he has already trounced. Handsomely. Petit Robin is just one of those, although if Master Minded were not there, I'd be tempted to back him. 4/1 without Master Minded is excellent, and many will be watching Briareus, of whom very little is known. But it's Master Minded who will canter home - unless something very, very strange happens.

Cheltenham 4:00 - Pierrot Lunaire

You'll get healthy odds against this one mainly because of two bad falls - however this is a horse that was spoken of in the same breath as Binocular (although I did warn you about that one yesterday). 20/1 as an each-way shot for a horse that is gradually finding its way back into its excellent previous form is good value - as is the 16/1 being quoted against Franchoek who has also recently recovered from poor form. Last year's beaten favourite has good each-way chances in a huge field that really needs more of my time, and I don't have it!
