This pre-season has been a disaster for most sides outside of the Top 4. Last season's 'Champions without the Big 4', Everton, have been hamstrung by bad management in the boardroom and a resulting lack of funds - they may even lose David Moyes at this rate, and the fans are rightly irate about their inability to match the Big 4 for financial muscle having got to 5th place. If David Moyes has reached a glass ceiling, he won't stick around for long. They've signed nobody, and all of their targets are seemingly going elsewhere. Alan Smith won't change much, so unless 'Blue' Bill Kenwright pulls something out of the fire quick, Everton won't break into the top 4.

Manchester City have also failed to add significant numbers, leaving Mark Hughes a little bemused as to what was on offer - and what he's got. Jo is unproven in the Premiership and could be amazing - he could be rubbish, though. Otherwise, they've failed to add to a squad that seemed too thin at times, and are having to sell to buy new players. They ought to be in a position to challenge the top 4 with the money they were supposed to have. But they won't be.

O'Neill's Villa have been rocked by the continuing Gareth Barry saga - and quite frankly, they should be pretty disgusted with Liverpool's behaviour over the whole episode. They've destabilised their best player, and probably the whole squad, which is still too small to challenge for higher places in the Premiership - especially when they've got a European campaign as well.

Spurs are my bet to win the Championship without the Big 4. They've bought well (although we often say that), they look solid at the back, and this is a chance for them to build on their League cup success last year. They don't have a European distraction - and they do have one of the best bosses in Europe. If they add another striker along the lines of David Villa - and keep Berbatov - then Spurs will be up there.

So what about this risk-free bet from Sportingbet? Well - let's look a little closer. It's not technically a free bet - only if you lose. So think of it as £50 on, say, Blackburn to win at Everton on the opening day. This is worth 3/1. Your minimum odds have to be 1.5 or 1/2, so that means you can't bet on Arsenal to beat West Brom. Too easy - think about it. If Everton do beat Blackburn, then your account is refunded with a FREE BET - which is the equivalent of the amount you bet. You could win £150 with this bet, and you could lose nothing. Careful, though - your free bet is at odds of EVENS or greater. So think before betting.

It's the best offer we've seen for a while, so take it while you still can!
